CHENNAI: Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj has dismissed widespread social media speculation suggesting the conclusion of the popular Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Speaking at a promotional event for his upcoming acting debut in the film 'DC', the director clarified that the franchise is far from over and will continue with several slated projects.
Addressing the rumours, Lokesh stated that while he might close his self-owned production company, G Squad, the LCU will definitely not be stopped. He noted that the acronym 'LCU' was originally coined by fans on social media, a title he subsequently embraced.
The director emphasised that he cannot abruptly end the franchise as he has already committed to multiple films within the universe. He assured fans that he will definitely direct the promised projects, including Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, and the standalone Rolex film.
Lokesh further revealed his immediate timeline, stating that he will transition into his upcoming LCU projects right after wrapping up his scheduled film with actor Allu Arjun. Additionally, he confirmed that the film 'Benz', which is being produced under his banner, will also be a part of the LCU timeline.
Meanwhile, Lokesh is set to debut as a lead actor in 'DC', which is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 31. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film is a contemporary adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy 'Devadas'. Kanagaraj will portray the titular character of Devadas, sharing the screen with Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana AK. The film’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
