The makers of Khalifa have announced the film's sequel, Khalifa II: The Legacy, at an event held on its release day. A new poster featuring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran was also unveiled at the event. The announcement has sparked discussions among fans and on social media about the story and characters that could feature in the second instalment.
Khalifa, which marks the reunion of Prithviraj Sukumaran and director Vyshakh after Pokkiri Raja, is currently running in theatres and has received a mixed response from audiences. Prithviraj's strong screen presence, Jakes Bejoy's music and Mohanlal's mass introduction have emerged as some of the film's major highlights, according to audience reactions.
The first part features Prithviraj in different looks, while Mohanlal makes a special appearance. The film revolves around family legacy, crime, revenge and a battle for control of a criminal empire, setting the stage for the newly announced sequel.
While Khalifa does not offer much novelty in terms of its story, its performances, twists and surprises make it an engaging watch. Neil Nitin Mukesh, Indrans, Sanju Sivram and Shammi Thilakan have also delivered notable performances. The 30 minutes leading up to the interval, along with Mohanlal's build-up sequences, are among the film's major highlights for theatre audiences.
