KOCHI: Actor Salim Kumar passed away on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam. He was suffering from a liver-related illness and had previously undergone a liver transplant.

Considered one among the titans of comedy in Malayalam cinema, Salim had a distinctive style which opened new doors of humour to the audience. Apart from acting, Salim was a great orator and had the knack to enthral the crowd with his speeches. For the same reason, his speeches delivered during political events of Congress are still celebrated on social media.

One among the viral speeches of Salim came during a live television interview almost 16 years back while reacting to the death of the actor and his close pal Cochin Haneefa.

“I don’t feel any loss at Haneefka’s death. He went to the place where I will surely go tomorrow. I am certainly going to meet him soon. Some years ago, when Haneefka’s mother died, I carried her coffin. Haneefka hugged me while crying and said he would not be able to repay the debt of love.

I seriously don’t feel any pain. I’m sure going to meet him there, and I know that I won’t be late. I only feel sorry for his twin daughters. I can only tell him to go safely, no worries, Salim Kumar is on the way.”
