'We were never legally married': Divya Pillai sets record straight on wedding rumours

Actor Divya Pillai has opened up about the long-running speculation surrounding her personal life, dismissing reports that she is divorced and clarifying that she was never legally married in the first place.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actor, who made her Malayalam debut opposite Fahadh Faasil in Ayal Njanalla (2015), said she has often come across online stories about her relationship status, ranging from claims that she was married and divorced to rumours about her current personal life.

Responding to the speculation, Divya said she was indeed in a relationship and that wedding ceremonies were held at the Mookambika Temple. However, since her partner was a foreign national, the marriage could not be legally registered.

She explained that while the couple was in the process of completing the legal formalities, differences emerged between them. Rather than allowing those issues to damage their friendship, they chose to part ways on good terms.

"How can people say I am divorced when we were never legally married?" she asked, adding that the relationship ended years ago and that her former partner has since remarried and is happily settled.

Calling her relationship status a private matter, Divya also criticised the culture of online speculation, saying anonymous social media accounts often make baseless claims about people's lives.

"My relationship status is my privacy. Whom I love or marry is my decision. Those are matters that concern only me, and I don't feel there's any need to explain them further," she said.
