SURAT: A content creator has been arrested in Surat for allegedly showing disrespect towards Mahatma Gandhi's image on a Rs 500 currency note while filming a reel. The accused has been identified as Simran (47), a native of Surat. She was arrested for allegedly disrespecting the image of Mahatma Gandhi on the currency note.

Simran, who has over one million followers on Instagram, posted the controversial reel on October 1. In the video, she wishes Gandhi on his birth anniversary before folding the currency note and placing it inside her clothing while using offensive language. She was arrested based on a complaint filed by social worker Dharmesh Gami. She has been charged with publishing obscene content in electronic form.

Surat Police shared a video on social media showing Simran's arrest. The video also shows the woman apologising for the controversial reel. Police warned the public against posting content on social media that could lead to social tension.
