Nineteen-year-old Kaziah Liz Mejo has made Kerala proud by winning the Miss Universe India 2026 title. However, the victory soon became the subject of a social media discussion, with several users claiming that former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen had ignored Kaziah during the beauty pageant. The Miss Universe India organisers and Kaziah have now appeared to respond to the speculation by sharing a photograph together with Sushmita.
The criticism surfaced after a video from the Miss Universe India 2026 finale was released. While Sushmita was seen interacting with some of the other winners, some social media users pointed out that she appeared to ignore Kaziah.
Amid the discussion, the organisers shared a photograph of Sushmita standing alongside Miss Universe India 2026 winner Kaziah Liz Mejo and the runners-up Vaishnavi Ganesh, Anushri Satavlekar, Tejaswini Srivastava and Anubha Vashisht.
The grand finale of the beauty pageant was held in Jaipur in August. Kaziah emerged victorious after competing against 52 contestants from across the country. Former Miss Universe India Manika Vishwakarma crowned Kaziah. Kaziah will represent India at the 75th Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Puerto Rico in November.
India’s first Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, former Miss Universe India Urvashi Rautela, Miss Universe India 2024 Rhea Singha, former Miss India Universe and Miss Universe runner-up Celina Jaitly, and environmentalist and filmmaker Pragya Kapoor were part of the judging panel at the Miss Universe India 2026 finale.
