NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes 25 years in political leadership on Wednesday, marking a journey that began with his taking charge as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001. Modi served as Gujarat Chief Minister for 13 consecutive years before becoming Prime Minister in 2014. He has since led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to power in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections and emerged as a prominent political leader on the global stage. Under his leadership, the BJP and its NDA allies have formed governments in 22 states and Union Territories. His tenure has also seen initiatives such as Make in India, aimed at strengthening the country’s manufacturing sector and attracting global investment. Modi has also received the highest civilian honours of several countries. He became the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India in June, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,398 days in office.
The Seva Sankalp Yatra, organised as part of the BJP’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan to mark Modi’s 25 years in public life, will culminate on Wednesday. The concluding programmes will be held in Vadnagar, Modi’s birthplace, and Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, with yatras carrying messages highlighting his personal life and public service converging at the two locations. In Varanasi, the Seva Yatris will perform jalabhishekam at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha national president Hemang Joshi are scheduled to address the gathering.
The programme in Vadnagar will conclude with jalabhishekam at the Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will attend the event.
