One killed, four sustain serious injuries in oxygen cylinder blast in Delhi

NEW DELHI: One person was killed in an accident caused by the explosion of an oxygen cylinder. The accident occurred Wednesday morning at a warehouse in Okhla Phase 1. The cylinder exploded when oxygen cylinders brought from Ghaziabad were being unloaded from a truck. Following the accident, one of the workers, 35-year-old Mohit Singh, died at the spot. Four others sustained serious injuries.

Mohit Singh of Jaipur, had been working at the firm for the past three years. The injured workers have been identified as Umesh, Aravind, Manoj, and Pankaj. They were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Police said they are collecting information about their present health condition.


A preliminary investigation found that the building where the accident occurred was being used as a warehouse by SM Traders, a company involved in the sale and local distribution of industrial oxygen cylinders. No oxygen-filling plant was found at the warehouse.


According to the police investigation, filled oxygen cylinders were brought to the warehouse from Ghaziabad through a supplier named Ram Avatar. The cylinders were then distributed to various commercial and industrial establishments in the Okhla area. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion. Police are also examining the legal documents related to the operation of the establishment.
