Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi detained during Delhi protest; sit-in continues near Akashvani Bhavan

NEW DELHI: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained by police during an Opposition protest in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest later continued as a sit-in near Akashvani Bhavan, with several Opposition MPs also detained. The protest, organised under the leadership of the Congress, was held over Opposition allegations of irregularities in the electoral rolls and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Protesters were seeking action over the allegations and demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

During the protest, Rahul Gandhi climbed onto a police barricade and waved the national flag before continuing with the demonstration. He was subsequently taken into police custody, but later returned to the protest site as the demonstration continued.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also detained during the protest. She was taken into a police vehicle but later got out and returned to the protest site, where she joined Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders.

The protest subsequently shifted towards Akashvani Bhavan, where Rahul, Priyanka and other Opposition leaders staged a sit-in. Police later moved to remove the protesters from the area, leading to further detentions.
Several Opposition MPs were also detained during the day's protest as the leaders attempted to press their demands over the electoral rolls and sought action from the Election Commission.
