Red Fort attack officially attributed to Al-Qaeda, says UN, sleeping cells in Bangladesh

NEW DELHI: A UN report has said that a branch of the notorious terrorist organization Al-Qaeda was behind the Red Fort blast that killed 11 people in 2025. The UN Security Council monitoring group has said that Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) was behind the blast. It has also found that ten people involved in the attack had links to Ansar Qaswat-ul-Hindu, an AQIS affiliate.

The report also states that the organization is still active in southeastern Afghanistan and is trying to set up sleeper cells in Bangladesh. It is said that terrorist groups are spreading instructions for developing toxins including ricin online.

The car bomb blast took place near the Red Fort in Delhi at around 7 pm on November 10, 2025. A car waiting at the signal near Gate No 1 of the Metro station exploded. The impact of the explosion also set fire to several vehicles nearby. Eleven people lost their lives and many were injured.

The investigation team had found that the accused arrested in the case had received training in bomb making from Afghanistan and had received bomb-making videos from abroad. Ten people, including Dr Muzammil Ahmed Ganai and Adeel Ahmed Rather, are accused in the case.
