CHENNAI: Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan said he was not a “self-made” star and credited the public for shaping his career, remarks that have fuelled fresh speculation about a possible political entry. Addressing more than 2,000 office-bearers of his fan clubs at a gathering in Chennai, Sivakarthikeyan said he was a “people-made” star and recalled his entry into the film industry in 2012.
He said he and actor Vijay Sethupathi were among those who entered the industry without a film-family background at the time. He also recalled that several people in the industry had doubted whether he could make the transition from television anchoring to becoming a lead actor.
Sivakarthikeyan said he had faith in his fans despite those doubts. His remarks drew applause from the gathering, which was attended by fan-club representatives from different levels of the organisation. The attendees were reportedly dressed in identical white shirts.
The event has triggered discussions about a possible political entry by Sivakarthikeyan. However, there has been no announcement from the actor indicating that he has decided to enter politics. Recent reports have instead linked the speculation to his speech and the organisational nature of the gathering. Sivakarthikeyan also urged his followers to give priority to their families and make time for reading every day.
Meanwhile, reports surfaced on Wednesday claiming that actor Dhanush had registered a political party with the Election Commission under the name Tamilaga Ezhuchi Kazhagam.
However, representatives of Dhanush's fan organisation have denied the reports, saying that no such political party has been registered and that Dhanush has not taken any such decision. They said the organisation is currently focused on welfare activities.
