Vijay-themed Ganesha idols go viral during Vinayaka Chaturthi; complaint filed against sculptor

CHENNAI: Several Vijay-themed Ganesha idols installed as part of Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations in Chennai have gone viral on social media. The idols, set up in the Korukkupet and RK Nagar areas, depict Lord Ganesha in looks inspired by actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The unique idols have drawn the attention of both locals and visitors, with photos and videos being widely shared online.

Among the different designs are depictions of Lord Ganesha modelled on Vijay's popular character from the film Ghilli as well as looks inspired by the actor's election campaign appearances. The idols were designed and created by Rajesh, a fan of Vijay.

However, the viral images of the idols also sparked controversy, with a complaint reportedly being filed with the police against Rajesh. Police later reached the spot and reportedly asked him to remove the idols.
