DYFI leader among four arrested with drugs in Thodupuzha; police say key drug-selling gang caught

THODUPUZHA: Four people, including a DYFI leader, were arrested with drugs in Thodupuzha. The arrested persons have been identified as T S Shiyas, the Thekkumbhagam area secretary and a block committee member of the DYFI, along with Ashiq O S, Nihal Shafeeq and Arshid. Police seized 18 grams of MDMA and 10 grams of hybrid cannabis from them.

The four were travelling through Thodupuzha in two vehicles on Tuesday night when a police team stopped and searched them, leading to the seizure of the drugs. They were subsequently arrested. T S Shiyas had contested as the LDF candidate from the Thekkumbhagam division of the block panchayat in the previous local body elections.

Police said the group was a key gang involved in drug sales in Thodupuzha and nearby areas. The police had reportedly been monitoring them for the past few days based on confidential information. The seized drugs were allegedly brought for distribution in the region. Police have intensified the investigation into the case.
