KOZHIKODE: Five people, including three women, were arrested after members of an alleged drug gang attacked police officers and the locals during a raid in Kerala's Kozhikode district.
The incident took place at Pandikkode in Perambra, where a DANSAF team conducted an inspection following a tip-off received by the Kozhikode Rural Police about the presence of a suspected drug gang in the area.
According to the police, the group attempted to prevent officers from carrying out the inspection and allegedly assaulted them. Officials reportedly did not anticipate such resistance from a group that included women.
Additional police personnel were rushed to the scene, and the suspects were eventually overpowered and taken into custody. Members of the inspection team and a local resident, identified as Riyad, sustained injuries in the attack.
Police said they had received a tip-off that the group had been staying in the area for the past few days. Officers seized narcotic substances, including a dangerous synthetic drug, from the accused during the operation.
