Kids drowning in water tank turns out to be murder; Mother arrested

CHITTOOR: The incident where siblings died after falling into a water tank at the bathroom has turned out to be a murder. The dead have been identified as Jennifer Juliet (5) and Robin Christopher (3), children of John Kumar and Nivedya, residing in Vadakarapathy’s Manalkad. Their mother, Nivedya, has confessed to the crime. She is presently in police custody.

John Kumar and his family were staying in a rented house at Kurangad near Menonpara in Vadakarapathy. The children were found dead Tuesday morning at 10.30. The incident happened when John Kumar had gone for work. The two children were found in the water tank of the bathroom in the search conducted after Nivedya informed her neighbor that they were missing. They were confirmed dead after taken to the nearby hospital.

Relatives and neighbours, who grew suspicious on their deaths, informed the police about it. On being interrogated, she confessed to the crime. The couple’s relatives said there were no issues between the couple. DySP Shasidharan said the motive behind the murder was the belief that the children would be an obstacle to their future life. The police suspect that after drowning the elder child who was playing, the second child was murdered in a similar manner. John Kumar also had raised suspicions.
