Police officer injured after being hit on head with helmet at Manaveeyam Veedhi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police were attacked while dispersing people after the conclusion of Onam week-long celebrations. The incident happened around midnight on Manaveeyam Veedhi in Thiruvananthapuram city. Sreejith, a civil police officer (CPO) of the SAP Camp, was injured after being hit on the head with a helmet. He has been admitted to the medical college hospital and has six stitches on his head.

The police identified the accused as Akhil Krishnadev of Aryanad. The police dispersed the crowd that had gathered at the Museum after the end of the Onam celebrations at around 10 pm. The Museum Police dispersed the crowd. The people who left the Museum later gathered at Manaveeyam Veedhi instead of going home. The Museum Police and police personnel from the SAP Camp arrived to disperse the crowd from there after midnight. As people were leaving following the police action, Akhil Krishnadev, who was part of the group, returned and hit the police officer on the head with a helmet.

Akhil, who attempted to flee after the incident, was detained by the Museum Police. Proceedings to register a case against him are underway. The police have recorded the statement of Sreejith.
