Woman health inspector arrested in Kovalam spa assault case; money trail under scrutiny

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman health inspector has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at spas in Kovalam. Maya, a temporary junior health inspector at Nagaroor panchayat, was arrested by the police.

According to the police, Maya was the benami owner of the spa to which the minor girl was brought. She is a friend of Anuroop, a health inspector with the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation who was arrested earlier in the case.

The income generated by the spa was initially credited to Maya’s bank account. The money was then transferred to the bank account of Anuroop, who was arrested earlier in the case.

Anuroop was suspended from service following his arrest. The 16-year-old girl is from Andhra Pradesh. The spa owners, Sajith Kumar (47) and Nishanth (46), along with the girl’s maternal aunt, her husband and health inspector Anuroop, are in judicial custody.
