‘CPM hits out at Congress-BJP nexus, party will not yield to any threat’

NEW DELHI: CPM general secretary M A Baby alleged that the BJP government is misusing central agencies to target political opponents. No one can be taken from the CPM to the BJP through threats or inducements, he said while speaking to the media in Delhi.

The BJP is misusing central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for its political objectives. He added that the party would politically and legally oppose moves targeting the CPM. The strategy of using central agencies to split opposition parties and threaten leaders into joining the BJP may have worked in parties including the Congress. However, the BJP should understand that such tactics will not work against the Communist Party.

Baby also alleged that while the Congress national leadership had strongly opposed ED action against the Congress leaders in Karnataka, they are adopting a different approach to the Modi government's crackdown on the CPM in Kerala. He criticised what he described as the unusual situation in which Congress leaders in Kerala were standing alongside the Modi government's alleged campaign against the CPM. Baby demanded that Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge clarify their stands on the matter.

He said the central agencies are now targeting Veena Vijayan, the daughter of Pinarayi Vijayan, with the aim of targeting the former chief minister. He described the action as entirely politically motivated and said the party would resist it both politically and legally. Baby also alleged that the present UDF government has no complaints about appointing RSS sympathisers as vice-chancellors and filling the university senates with RSS members in Kerala.
