Accident after sub-inspector drives car under influence of alcohol; Three injured in Kannur

KANNUR: Three sustained injuries after a car driven by a police officer under the influence of alcohol hit them. The car was driven by sub inspector Rajith of the Azhikkal Coastal Police Station. The accident happened on September 21st near Kannothumchal on the national highway.

Swathi, a hotel management student who also works part-time, and two migrant workers were injured in the accident. Swathi was hit by the car while returning from her workplace. The car hit the two migrant workers before striking Swathi.

Despite hitting three, Rajith did not stop the vehicle. The injured said people from nearby shops followed the vehicle and managed to stop it. Swathi said the police officer was so intoxicated that he was unable even to walk properly. Following the incident, Rajith was suspended. A complaint had received against Rajith earlier as well for driving under the influence of alcohol.
