AISF district secretary alleges assault by five police officers at Karunagappally station

PATHANAMTHITTA: AISF Pathanamthitta district secretary Sharath Lal has alleged that he was assaulted by police officers at the Karunagappally police station. Sharath Lal said five police officers assaulted him in front of the station and later took him to a poorly lit area, where they allegedly beat him.

Sharath Lal had gone to the police station to meet a student who was arrested in connection with a clash at the Engineering College in Manakkala, Adoor. He later sought treatment at a hospital after allegedly being assaulted.

The incident comes amid controversy over an earlier incident in which local residents allegedly attacked Adoor police officers who had reached Karunagappally to arrest a suspect in the Manakkala college clash.
