Athachamayam in Tripunithura; CM inaugurates Onam celebrations; Anoop Jacob hoists flag

KOCHI: The Athachamayam in Tripunithura have marked the beginning of the state’s official Onam celebrations. Chief Minister V D Satheesan inaugurated the celebrations Sunday morning at the Tripunithura Government Boys Higher Secondary School grounds. Actor Jagadish was the chief guest.

Minister Anoop Jacob, MPs Hibi Eden and Francis George, and District Collector G Priyanka also attended the event, presided over by MLA Deepak Joy. Minister Anoop Jacob hoisted the Atham flag.

Jagadish flagged off the procession. The police have made traffic control and security arrangements, with 500 police personnel and volunteers deployed. Authorities said facilities including parking, toilets, and medical assistance have been arranged.

Around 2,000 artists from various parts of the state will participate in the procession. Traditional art forms such as Kathakali, Pulikali, Theyyam, and Chenda Melam will be there.
