THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: New Kerala Governor, Om Prakash Mathur, directed that only vegetarian food be served at Lok Bhavan. Special cooks from Rajasthan have been brought in to prepare Rajasthani-style cuisine for the Governor. Mathur assumes office as the Governor of Kerala after completing a tenure of two years and two and a half months in Sikkim.
The directive stipulates that no meat or fish be cooked in the Lok Bhavan kitchen. There are no restrictions on staff members bringing food from their own homes or dining out elsewhere.
Meals at Lok Bhavan are provided for the Governor, his personal staff, and select officials. Guests, too, will now be served vegetarian food.
There was no ban on non-vegetarian food during the tenure of former Governor Rajendra Arlekar. During the time of Arlekar, who hails from Goa, dishes including fish were served. He had no objection to guests and staff consuming non-vegetarian food.
"I am immensely happy to arrive for the first time in Kerala—'God’s Own Country'—a land rich in natural beauty and the grandeur of tradition. I am beginning a new journey in this land, which is filled with love and harmony." Said Governor Om Prakash Mathur.
