KOLLAM: People who tried to dump sewage waste near the residence of Minister Bindu Krishna have been taken into police custody. The incident happened Wednesday morning at around 2 am near the canal close to Bindu Krishna’s residence at Shanthinada in Chinnakkada. The corporation officials then alerted the police, who arrived at the spot and seized the vehicle. The police have registered a case in the incident.

There had been complaints that sewage waste was being brought and dumped in this area during night time. Following these complaints, the corporation health standing committee had put the area under surveillance. It was after this the vehicle was seized near the minister’s residence yesterday.

Two were arrested in connection with a case involving the dumping of sewage waste into the A S Canal in Cherthala, Alappuzha, the other day. Large quantities of waste were found dumped into the canal from two tankers. The waste was dumped by miscreants in the canal, which had been cleaned and maintained jointly by the municipality’s Haritha Karma Sena and local residents. The incident triggered widespread protests. Following this, the accused were identified through a joint investigation conducted by the health department and the police.
