PATHANAMTHITTA: There is an unexpected twist in the complaint alleging that people who arrived in a white car attempted to kidnap children. A woman who was in the car told a television channel that they had not attempted to abduct the children but had only tried to offer them a lift. Complaints alleging attempts to kidnap children were reported from Pazhakulam and Kodumon in Pathanamthitta. The incidents grabbed headlines and the police then started an investigation. The woman came forward after this to explain what had actually happened.
It was earlier confirmed that the incident in Kodumon involved an attempt to offer the children a lift. Following this, the mystery surrounding the abduction complaint reported in Pazhakulam was also cleared up. The woman said she had informed the Adoor police about what had happened.
The Pathanamthitta District Police Chief said the family members of the child had identified the people who were in the car that had come under suspicion. Police said a woman of the area and her husband were in the car.
‘Me and my husband were in the car. While travelling along that road, we saw the children. Since muddy water had accumulated on the road, we only asked the children whether we could help them get to the other side. We noticed the news yesterday evening and realized that it was about us. When we saw the car we had confirmed. We immediately went to the Adoor police station and explained the situation. The car we were travelling in belonged to a relative. We are from that locality. The claim that we grabbed the children and pulled them is not true,’ the woman told the television channel.
A complaint over an attempt to kidnap children has also emerged from Kollam. The police are investigating the matter.
