Business data leaked from Union Bank, Rs 3145 crore loss suffered: Case filed against official

KASARAGOD: Kasaragod Town Police registered a case following a complaint that the Union Bank of India's business data was illegally downloaded and a misleading letter was prepared and sent to the RBI Governor and a news channel. Based on a complaint filed by U. Reeja, a law officer at Union Bank Kozhikode Regional Office, a case was registered against Purandara Jaya, Assistant Manager of the bank's Mangalore Zonal Office, under sections of the BNS and IT Act.

The case was registered on the basis of the statement given by the complainant in person at the Kasaragod police station at around 10 pm on August 31. The complaint alleges that the bank and its shareholders suffered a loss of Rs 3,145 crore. The FIR stated that the accused illegally downloaded and copied the bank's year-end business data related to the financial year ending March 31, 2026.

The FIR was submitted by the police to the Kasaragod Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Kasaragod CI Melbin Jose is in charge of investigating the case. The investigation team is examining in detail the manner in which the digital data was handled, the financial loss and the methods used to send the letters.
