KOYILANDY: The investigation into the theft of eight crore rupees from the KMCC (Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre) office in Qatar has now expanded to include a prominent Gulf-based businessman. The investigative team declined to disclose his identity. P.M.A. Salam, the State General Secretary of the Muslim League, threatened to oust those KMCC members if found to have any involvement in the fraud.
The police stated that they would investigate the involvement of KMCC leaders, alongside the five suspects who are yet to be apprehended. There are indications that statements have been recorded from KMCC leaders based in Kozhikode district. The Koyilandy court rejected the bail application filed by the fourth accused—Parappil Balakrishnan, a native of Nellyadi, Koyilandy—who surrendered.
The prime accused, 'Bombay' Shaji—a native of Payyoli—approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The case pertains to a robbery that took place on September 18, 2025, at the KMCC office in Al Thumama, Qatar, where the lock of a strong room was broken open using a gas cutter. The investigation is led by Koyilandy Circle Inspector (CI) R.N. Prashanth.
A new threatening message from the first accused, 'Bombay Shaji', emerged, in which he attempts to coerce the complainants into withdrawing the case. In a message sent to an associate, he instructs them to issue threats—such as claiming the involvement of the 'Sangh' (RSS/Sangh Parivar) and warning about bringing in central investigative agencies.
