
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police arrested a corporation councillor who was absconding in a murder attempt case in the capital city on Tuesday. R Sugathan, a ward councillor and BJP leader from the Vattiyoorkavu Vazhottukonam ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, was arrested. The police said that he had been absconding for over a month. The police had registered a case against the councillor in the incident of trying to kill a person during a festival in Vattiyoorkavu.
The High Court had denied him bail, and on learning that Sugathan, who was absconding, had reached Vazhottukonam, SHO Vipin. and a police team reached the spot. At this time, Sugathan's followers surrounded the police and created a tense atmosphere.
The SHO had to fire shots from his service revolver to disperse the crowd. Sugathan was taken to Vattiyoorkavu station. SHO Vipin was the same officer who had earlier controlled the CPM-BJP clash in Vattiyoorkavu.
