KOTTAYAM: Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen visited NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair at the NSS headquarters on Monday. Sukumaran Nair welcomed the Minister by draping a shawl around him. This was Samsudheen’s first visit to the NSS headquarters in Perunna since assuming office as the Education Minister.
The two held a meeting lasting 15 minutes. N. Samsudheen described the visit as cordial and stated that they discussed matters related to the education sector.
Samsudheen added that the contributions by NSS to the education sector are immense and opined that suggestions from such organisations are essential for the department's progress. Meanwhile, speaking to the media after the meeting, Sukumaran Nair stated that there had been no attempt to create a rift with the Muslim community or the League, and emphasised that while he maintains an equal approach towards all religions, he holds a special affinity for the Muslim community.
Earlier, G. Sukumaran Nair had sharply criticised the move to allocate the Education portfolio to the League, as well as the allegation that the League was controlling the government. Against this backdrop, the warm reception accorded to League Minister N. Samsudheen at the NSS headquarters is particularly noteworthy.
