Horrific accident in Thrissur: Eight killed after car crashes into parked lorry

THRISSUR: Eight people were killed in a tragic road accident at Kaipamangalam in Thrissur around midnight after a car crashed into the rear of a parked lorry. All eight people travelling in the car are believed to have died at the spot. The accident occurred at around 12 midnight near Panambikunnu Centre on the national highway in Kaipamangalam.

The car, which had a Tamil Nadu registration, crashed into a goods lorry parked near a diversion on the under-construction national highway. The impact was so severe that the car was completely wrecked. Rescue workers had to cut open the mangled vehicle to retrieve the victims. The identities of those killed have not yet been confirmed.

According to preliminary information, the passengers were students of an engineering college in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. Kaipamangalam police reached the spot soon after the accident and launched an investigation. Further details about the circumstances of the crash are being collected.
