THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cultural conference organised by the Chenthi Sree Narayana Samskarika Nilayam Charitable Society to celebrate the 172nd Sree Narayana Gurudev Jayanti was cancelled at the last moment. The organisers had invited Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to inaugurate the conference scheduled for 5.30 pm on Friday. Extensive preparations were made in the area in anticipation of the Chief Minister's arrival.

Upon learning that the program was not on the Chief Minister's program chart, activists, including women, entered the road with the aim of convincing the Chief Minister, who was passing by to participate in the Guru Jayanti conference in Chempazhanthi.

When the Chief Minister's motorcade arrived, the organisers approached and invited him to participate in the program. However, when the Chief Minister said that he would not participate, the locals protested and stood in front of the vehicle.

The Chief Minister then continued his journey after the police removed the protesters. The organisers later announced that the cultural conference had been cancelled as a protest against the Chief Minister's decision not to attend the event. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister's Office said that the organisers had been informed in advance that he would not be able to participate in the program based on the police intelligence report. The Onam kits and other essential items were later handed over to the deserving people. A ritual was held at the Gurudeva Temple in the morning.
