36 Degrees Celsius in Punalur; scorching days ahead in Kerala, alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Disaster Management Authority issued a warning in the wake of rising temperatures in the state. The Indian Meteorological Department warned of a possibility of a rise of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow.

Punalur crossed 36 degrees. Kottayam was at 35 degrees. In most districts, the average temperature should be around 30 degrees, but the temperature has risen by more than four degrees. The Disaster Management Authority informed that high heat can cause many health problems, including sunstroke, heatstroke, and dehydration. Although the monsoon is expected to arrive this month, the rains are holding back. Although some districts are receiving isolated light rains, there is no relief from the heat. No rain warning has been issued in the state for the next 5 days.

Electricity consumption in the state is soaring. The peak consumption was 5045 MW on Sunday. This is the highest consumption this month.
