ALAPPUZHA: The survivor in the Kalamassery sexual assault case is recovering but remains deeply traumatised, Minister Bindu Krishna said. The minister said the men who lured the girl under the pretext of offering her a job had exploited her. The government would not spare those responsible, she said. Bindu Krishna made the remarks after visiting the survivor.

The minister also warned that despite strong action by the ‘Toofan’ team, some people were still involved in drug-related activities behind the scenes. Strong action would be taken against them, she said.

Meanwhile, police described Sreeraj, the first accused in the case, as a criminal who had allegedly made a practice of exploiting girls under the cover of a spa. Assistant Commissioner of Police Bijoy Chandran said the alleged criminal activities had been going on for a long time. Police also suspect that Saranya, who has been arrested in connection with the case, may herself have fallen into Sreeraj’s trap. Several poor young women had allegedly been ensnared by the accused, the ACP said.
