'Project Soorya' to be KSRTC's saviour: Comprehensive plan to be implemented soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC is implementing a comprehensive action plan, ‘Project Soorya ’, to improve the diesel mileage and increase fuel efficiency of its buses (KMPL). The full form of the project is Systematic Operations by Optimisation and Reduction of Emission with Year-round Action Plan. The main objective of the project is to increase the mileage of the buses and to create a unified system to accurately assess and report the progress in fuel efficiency.

As part of the project, the daily diesel mileage of the buses at each depot will be assessed. Buses recording low mileage will be identified, and necessary technical inspections and repairs will be carried out. Special attention will be paid to the timely resolution of technical issues such as excessive smoke, diesel leakage, air leakage and ensuring accuracy in service operations. Counselling and training will be provided to increase the efficiency of the employees.

Four categories for buses based on performance

Buses will be classified into four categories: A, B, C and D based on KMPL performance.

A – Good Performance: Buses that achieve the specified KMPL or above.

B – Watch List: Buses that show a slight decrease in their normal mileage.

C – Poor Performance: Buses that consistently record low KMPL and require technical inspection.

D – Critical: Buses that have serious technical issues such as excessive smoke, diesel/air leakage, along with a significant decrease in KMPL.

A daily report will be prepared for each depot, including overall performance, technical issues, employee performance, and service punctuality. Detailed weekly and monthly reports will be submitted to the superiors, including information such as average KMPL, list of best and worst performing buses, resolved and pending technical issues, and training provided to employees.

Cost control through fuel efficiency, better service through technical efficiency — the aim of ‘Project Soorya’ is to further enhance the operational efficiency of KSRTC.
