THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched a new travel package, ‘Vijnana Darshini’, offering school and college students affordable opportunities to combine education with recreation. The initiative is being implemented by the KSRTC Budget Tourism Cell on the directions of the Transport Minister. The scheme aims to provide students with practical knowledge through visits to cultural centres, archaeological sites, factories and tourist destinations.
In the first phase, tour packages will cover major attractions in Thiruvananthapuram district, including Ponmudi, the Kappukadu Elephant Rehabilitation Centre, Neyyar Dam, the Palode Botanical Garden, the Jersey Farm at Vithura, the museum and the planetarium. The scheme will be extended to other districts soon. Educational institutions will also be able to arrange study visits to industrial units based on their requirements.
Special KSRTC buses suitable for trips to Ponmudi will be used for these journeys. Each bus can accommodate 36 students at a time. The initiative aims to help students gain a better understanding of nature, science and history while complementing textbook learning with practical experiences.
For further information and bookings, educational institutions can contact the district coordinators of the KSRTC Budget Tourism Cell.
