CHANDERA: A case was registered against a police officer for selling a lost mobile phone. The theft case was filed against Neerchal, Badiyadka native Y. Baiju (41), a Senior Civil Police Officer at the Chandera Police Station.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the 12th October. A migrant worker living near the station had found a mobile phone—valued at Rs 10,000—on the road and brought it to the station. Baiju, who was on duty at the time, accepted the phone and recorded it in the General Diary.

It was discovered that the phone belonged to Subhadra Nair, a native of Ramanthali, and she was duly informed. It was only when her son visited the police station a week later that it became clear that the phone was missing. An investigation, conducted with the assistance of the Cyber Cell, revealed that an individual from Neerchal, Badiyadka, had been using the phone since the 14th.

Upon being summoned and questioned, it was revealed that a police officer was behind the sale. The police officer also destroyed the phone's SIM card.
