PALAKKAD: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said the decision to remove the party's Palakkad district secretary was part of the party's efforts to correct its mistakes. He said expanded district committee meetings are being convened to correct mistakes and invite those who need to be brought into the discussions.
Govindan said there was no need to link organisational changes with complaints. "The party has a clear view of the actions being taken and will correct everything that needs to be corrected. The UDF government is not allowing the SFI and DYFI to stage democratic protests. However, if the Sangh Parivar comes out in protest, the UDF government would extend full support to them and protect them by registering cases only in a manner that would ensure they get station bail," Govindan said.
"Hundreds of our workers are still behind bars. They have been jailed by imposing non-bailable sections. On the other hand, ABVP and RSS workers are being protected. This is being done after discussions with them as part of a deal with the BJP. They themselves have said that there are no discussions within the UDF. So, as we all know, the discussions are only with the BJP. The government led by V D Satheesan has surrendered to the BJP," M V Govindan said.
Meanwhile, new CPM Palakkad district secretary V Chenthamarakshan said Suresh Babu's decision to step down as district secretary was entirely due to personal reasons. He said the party had not received any harassment complaints against Suresh Babu. Chenthamarakshan said no such complaint had been brought before either the district committee or the state committee. He also said there were no factional divisions within the party.
