Owner alleges arson on fire in godown of furniture shop in Pattom

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The owner of the furniture shop in Pattom has levelled serious allegations following a fire at the shop’s godown. The shop owned by Joy Abraham alleged that someone deliberately set fire to the godown.

He said that similar incidents had occurred in the past as well and that he had filed a complaint to the chief minister. He also alleged that people jealous of his growth are behind the incident. Meantime, the fire and rescue services said that the exact cause of the fire can be determined only after a detailed investigation.

The fire broke out at the godown of Joy Furniture in Pattom at around 10:30 am today. People noticing the smoke emanating from the godown alerted the fire and rescue services. Five fire service units were deployed and after more than two hours of efforts, the fire was brought under control.

Many things including the mattresses and furniture stacked in the godown were completely destroyed in the fire. The shop owner said that the estimated loss was around Rs 20 lakh. A detailed investigation into the incident has been initiated.
