THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An investigation has been launched into an incident at the Medical College Hospital where stitches were applied to the wound of a 57-year-old man, who fell from a tree, without removing a piece of wood that had pierced his left leg.

The inquiry will be conducted by a team led by Deputy Superintendent Dr Kiran. Other members of the panel include doctors from the orthopaedics, surgery, and radiology departments- Dr Kishore, Dr Thomas, and Dr Bindu. The team has been asked to submit its report within a week. The investigation committee was formed by the Medical College Principal following instructions from Minister K Muraleedharan.

The incident happened to Madhu, a native of Bharathannur. He was admitted to the Medical College Hospital on March 21 after falling from a tree and suffering injuries. Two months later, pus developed in the wound. During an examination at the Nedumangad District Hospital, doctors discovered a piece of wood still lodged inside his left leg. The wooden piece was finally removed during a surgery that lasted around two-and-a-half hours on Monday.
