THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state's electricity tariff hike is likely to be announced by the Regulatory Commission today. It is also to be known whether an additional tariff will be imposed for night-time consumption and whether a higher tariff will have to be paid from January to May as a summer tariff. As part of the steps in this regard, Commission Chairman T K Jose held a meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan yesterday. The tariff hike came into effect from December 1. The current tariff period ended on November 30. The rates for the year 2024-25 and the rates for the years 2025-26 and 2026-27 will be announced today.

KSEB is demanding an eight percent increase. If the tariff is increased in this way, it will generate an additional revenue of Rs 812.16 crore this year, Rs 1399.93 crore next year and Rs 1522.92 crore in 2026-27. If the summer tariff is also approved, additional revenue of Rs 111.08 crore will be generated this year, Rs 233 crore next year and Rs 349 crore in 2026-27. This is the third electricity tariff hike since the second Pinarayi Vijayan government came to power.
