THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely to continue across Kerala for another week due to a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast and another system expected to develop by tomorrow.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts today. A yellow alert is in place in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Fishing has been banned along the Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka coasts until Sunday.

The Disaster Management Authority has also warned that restrictions should be imposed at tourist destinations near water bodies in view of the heavy rain.
