THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman Sub-Inspector has told the Special Investigation Team (SIT) reinvestigating the alleged attack on former minister Veena George that a statement attributed to her was false and had been recorded in her name without her having made it. Deepti, a former SI at Kannur Town Police Station, gave the statement to the SIT.
According to reports, Deepti told the SIT that she had not said the minister was thrown during the KSU protest. She reportedly alleged that the earlier investigation team had falsely recorded such a statement in her name. She also said that the original investigation team had never recorded her statement. Deepti was responsible for the minister's security at the railway station.
The case concerns the alleged attack on Veena George during a Youth Congress protest at Kannur railway station when she was a minister. The SIT, which is reinvestigating the case, recorded Veena George's statement the previous day. The team, led by U. Preman, Commandant of the KAP Fourth Battalion, visited her residence at Angadikkal in Kodumon to record her statement. The team will next record statements from witnesses and others.
On February 25, 2026, KSU activists staged a black-flag protest against Veena George at Kannur railway station. After the minister sustained injuries during the protest, the Railway Police registered a case invoking charges including attempt to murder. M.C. Athul, V.V. Akshay, Bithul Balan, C.H. Mubas and Ahmed Yasin were named as accused in the case. They were granted bail after spending 16 days in remand at Kannur Sub Jail.
