NEW DELHI: CPM central committee member P K Sreemathy said that strict action will be taken if there are sexual offenders in the party. Speaking to the media in Delhi, Sreemathy said action has always been taken against such people and that the CPM is not a party that shields sexual offenders. She also challenged anyone to prove that she had ever said that there was such a thing as less severe sexual assault.
Sreemathy was responding to the allegations against E N Suresh Babu, CPM Palakkad former district secretary. Sreemathy clarified this while CPM leaders were evading questions against Suresh Babu.
Sreemathy had the other day clarified her stand via a Facebook post. CPM has only the tradition of taking merciless action against anyone who harassed girls or women, no matter how high-ranking they are, and for those who still do not remember this, it can only be said to be vinashakale vipareetha buddhi' (perverse intellect in times of doom).
Meantime, there are reports that the party is planning to take strict action against Suresh Babu following the sexual harassment complaint against him. As an initial step, he was removed from the district secretary post. Suresh Babu faces allegations of misbehaving with a female lawyer who is a party member.
