KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee continues to face setbacks following the party’s heavy defeat in the Assembly elections. TMC national spokesperson and former MP Santanu Sen has resigned from his post, adding to the growing troubles within the party.

In his resignation letter, Santanu Sen said that the people of Bengal had rejected the TMC. He added that he could no longer continue in a party surrounded by corruption allegations. Sen also stated that his resignation was in protest against the corruption charges and the way the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case was handled.

In the letter, he mentioned that he had strongly defended the party before the media on several controversial issues, but after the people of Bengal rejected the party, he could not continue against his conscience.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool leadership has not yet reacted to Santanu Sen’s resignation. Earlier, MP Kakoli Ghosh had also resigned from the post of Trinamool Mahila wing president and other organisational responsibilities. Rumours are also growing that more TMC MPs may join the BJP.
