Man hacks wife in front of school students, kills daughter and self in Salem

SALEM: A man who hacked his wife inside a school premise was found dead on Tuesday. The incident took place at Omalur Government School in Salem. E Vijayamurugan (42), husband of 44-year-old teacher Srividya, was found dead. The body of their daughter, Ashoka Sivasundari (3), was also found. It is reported that Vijayamurugan committed suicide after killing the child. The bodies were found under a tree, one kilometre away from the school where the teacher was killed.

The couple were living separately due to constant disputes. Srividya was living with her daughter in Omalur. On Monday afternoon, Vijayamurugan reached the school at 1 pm, waiting for Srividya. Seeing Srividya walk to the restroom with her daughter, Vijayamurugan barged towards her. Later, he took out a knife and stabbed her in the neck and head. By the time the school authorities and students rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion, Vijayamurugan fled with the child.

For the past few months, Vijayamurugan stayed at home and was jobless, resulting in constant fights with his wife. He had threatened to kill Srividya earlier as well. A complaint was then filed at the Tholasampatti police station, but no serious intervention came from the police's side.
