PM Modi intervenes; Central government removes CBSE chairman and secretary over portal fiasco

NEW DELHI: The central government finally took action over the failures in the conduct of CBSE examinations. CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta have been removed from their posts. The action is on the instructions of the Prime Minister. A one-member committee has been appointed to investigate the issues related to the on-screen marking system. S Radha Chauhan, the Chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission, will investigate this.

CBSE decided to switch to a completely digital on-screen marking (OSM) system this year.

Later, children and parents reported that the scanned copies of the answer sheets were not bright enough, and pages were missing. Some students received answer sheets of others, amplifying the issues. After widespread complaints from students who had applied for and paid for the answer sheets, experts from IITs and IIMs were called in for help.

Meanwhile, the CBSE said that there has been a cyber-attack on the official portal. The CBSE has said that there were continuous attempts to disrupt the portal on the first day of the distribution of applications. The attack was on the site for the revaluation of exams and verification of certificates. The CBSE said in a statement that cyber criminals launched the attack with the aim of disrupting services at a time when thousands of students were using the CBSE revaluation portal.
