
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall across Kerala for the next five days and has issued orange and yellow alerts in several districts. A yellow alert has been issued today for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts. The IMD has also indicated that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala by Wednesday.

The IMD has issued an orange alert in these districts, warning of the possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places. According to the department, "very heavy rainfall" refers to rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within a 24-hour period.
