
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that the state will receive heavy rains today. A yellow alert has been issued in 10 districts except four. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad are on special alert. The possibility of isolated heavy rains has been predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain will fall in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are expected.
An orange alert has also been issued in various districts for three days from tomorrow. The possibility of extremely heavy rains has been predicted. The IMD defines extremely heavy rain as a situation where 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain will fall in 24 hours.

The IMD has informed that fishing should not be done along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts till June 5. The IMD has pointed that there is a possibility of strong winds and bad weather with a speed of 35 to 45 km per hour and at times up to 55 km per hour along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts.
