Police bust honeytrap gang which extorted money from youth; Ernakulam native lost Rs 46 lakh

KOCHI: The Maradu police have arrested a honeytrap gang that extorted Rs 46 lakhs from a youth through honeytrap. The arrested persons are Kottarakkara native Harikrishnan and his brother Girikrishnan. The two had extorted money from the manager of a private company in Ernakulam by using a fake profile in the name of a woman.

They extorted money from the youth after duping the voice of a woman and thereby earning his trust. The gang was arrested following the intervention of the youth's wife, who found out that her husband was constantly receiving women's phone calls. The woman also noticed that her husband was sending money to a woman. She secretly monitored her husband's moves and reported the matter to the police.

Upon investigating the matter, police found that Harikrishnan and Girikrishnan were extorting money from the youth by duping the voice of a woman. According to police, more people might have fallen prey to the honeytrap by the two.
