ALAPPUZHA: The Poochakkal Police have registered a case against five members of a family for allegedly tying up and mercilessly thrashing an elderly man in Panavally. The victim, identified as Vijayan (64) from Trichattukulam, was attacked following a long-standing dispute.

The incident, which took place on the night of May 7, came to light after a video of the assault went viral on social media. According to the FIR, a neighbour named Sathar and four of his family members dragged Vijayan from his courtyard to their property. They then stripped him of his clothes, tied him to a coconut tree, and beat him. Vijayan's family members, who rushed to his rescue, were also reportedly assaulted by the group. Vijayan is currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

Police stated that the motive behind the attack was a grudge regarding a previous assault case involving the same parties. While a case has been registered, the accused are currently on the run. The Poochakkal Police have intensified their search to apprehend the suspects as the viral footage continues to spark widespread public outrage.
