PALAKKAD: With the assembly elections approaching, discussions and hot debates are ongoing about candidate selection in all three fronts. Congress looks to emulate its terrific performance in the local body elections. Congress sources indicate that DCC President A Thankappan will likely be the candidate in the Palakkad constituency.
The demand to field Thankappan was raised at the Congress district leadership meeting. This was conveyed to Kerala's election in-charge Deepa Dasmunsi. The district Congress’s decision comes amidst moves from incumbent MLA Rahul Mamkootathil to contest from the constituency again.
It is reported that VT Balram will also be a candidate in Thrithala this time. However, there are also reports that the Pattambi seat will not be given to the Muslim League. The leadership meeting demanded that the Pattambi seat be contested by Congress this time. There are also reports that former MLA CP Mohammed threatened to end his political activities if Pattambi falls to League again. Meanwhile, Congress leader Sandeep Varier has also come forward and expressed his willingness to contest the assembly elections.
